Australia’s major airports are important gateways to domestic and international tourism as well as air cargo. They are a key component of Australia’s economic and transport infrastructure and many are located in densely populated urban areas.

Australian Government curfew legislation was enacted for some airports to help mitigate the impact of aircraft noise on residents during late night hours (11pm to 6am) by placing restrictions on aircraft that can land and take-off. At Adelaide Airport, a curfew applies between 11pm and 6am. While most aircraft operations are prohibited during this period, there is provision for the operation of emergency aircraft, some small jets, propeller-driven aircraft and freight flights.
