Project Overview

We are building a new taxiway, to help improve aircraft access to our main runway and terminal. The new taxiway will be known as Taxiway Lima 2. Construction works are underway with expected completion in late August 2025.

During this project we will be constructing an entirely new taxiway. The Scope of works includes:

1. Early Works

  • Removal and replacement of services and utilities
  • Construction of new stormwater line

2. Earthworks

  • More than 6,500m3 of material to be removed from the site
  • Installation of 500mm thick rock layer to build up to design subgrade
  • 14,500m2 of a pavement consisting of;
    • 840mm thick foam bitumen stabilised base course material on the taxiway
    • 450mm thick foam bitumen stabilised base course material on the taxiway shoulders
  • 2,500m2 of flank regrading adjacent new pavements

3. Lighting

  • Airfield ground lighting:
    • All new primary conduits, secondary conduits
    • 12 new Movement Area Guidance Signs (MAGS)
    • More than 85 new LED inset light fittings to be installed
    • More than 14,000m of new cable to be installed

This project will require periodic closure of the main runway at night while the new taxiway is being constructed. Aircraft permitted to operate during curfew hours will utilise the cross runway for periods when the main runway is closed due to works.

Adelaide Airport will provide updates on this page and across our social media platforms if we anticipate there will be disruption to the community.
